Soccer Camps

University of Akron Winter Soccer Camps

We at Akron Men’s Soccer wanted to send out a reminder, that we hope you can pass onto your players and club members, regards our Winter/Spring Training Camp programs.

We know the winter and early spring months can be congested with indoor trainings and games squeezed in with the limited space we all have at this time of year, so we want to make all the local talent aware of some extra training opportunities delivered by our coaching staff at Akron soccer.

We host three camps through the month of January - March:

Monday Night Soccer School

Over the course of a 90 minute game, with all of its ebbs and flows, the difference between winning and losing at every level comes down to a few moments. Can a field-player take advantage of scoring opportunities? Can goalkeepers make the one or two saves they have to make to keep their team in the game? Do players have the correct technical abilities to play through pressure?...

With this in mind, the Akron Soccer School was created. Once a week, all winter long, the Akron Men’s Soccer Staff will give each student the technical and tactical information needed to be a difference maker. Whether you are just getting started or are already an All-American, the Akron Soccer School can take your game to a whole new level.  The Camp, open to all boys & girls’ ages 10-18, commences on Monday, February 10th and has three schools available; Striker School, Skill School and Goalkeeper School. Campers elect to receive coaching and instruction in one of the schools offered.

College Prep Camp

The Akron College Prep Camp, featuring the players and the staff of The Akron Zips Men's Soccer Program. This three-day event is designed for advanced player development and exposure to some of the nation's top college coaches. In addition to college coaches, several Zips players will be employed by the camp for demonstration purposes.

The Akron Soccer Staff believes that "the game is the best teacher." The same philosophy will be applied at camp. The focus of all activities will be learning through play. Enrollment in the camp will be extremely limited to allow individual attention for each player from the staff of college coaches. A combination of small sided and 11 vs. 11 games will be at the core of the camp curriculum.

Players should plan on being available Friday evening beginning at 6:30pm, all day Saturday and finishing Sunday afternoon by 3:00 pm. After the first session on Friday night, players will be notified as to what schedule they will be on for the rest of the weekend.

Winter Goalkeeping Camp

Akron Soccer is becoming known as a breeding ground for top-flight collegiate and professional goalkeepers.  Akron’s last two starting keepers, David Meves and Evan Bush, are now both in the professional ranks of Major League Soccer with the Portland Timbers and Montreal Impact, respectively. Our experienced staff will teach you the key technical, tactical, physical and psychological aspects of this crucial position.

This two-day camp will focus on the technical and tactical skills needed to succeed in one of the most demanding and unique positions in all of team sports.  Sessions for the weekend will be conducted by the University of Akron Goalkeeping Coach, Stuart Dobson. Coach Dobson will be assisted by current and former zips goalkeepers as well as other professional and collegiate level goalkeeping coaches.

Campers should be ready for camp to commence on Friday evening, March 14th after 6pm. There will be one session on Friday evening, with camp running throughout the day on Saturday, March 15th. A final camp itinerary and confirmation will be sent to each camper prior to camp.

To date Coach Dobson has produced four straight professional goalkeepers; David Meves (Portland Timbers, MLS) Dan Kennedy (Chivas USA Captain, MLS) Kyle Reynish (Real Salt Lake, MLS) and Sam Hayden (Ventura Fusion, USL).

The University of Akron Soccer Camps - June and July 2014

The University of Akron Soccer Camps

Akron Area Soccer Coaches and Organizations,

We would like to make your club, players and families aware of the 2014 Akron Men’s Soccer Camps summer schedule.

The University Akron Men’s Soccer program is the MOST successful Division I NCAA soccer program, producing more wins and more professional soccer players than any other NCAA Division I program over the past 7 years. We see it as a part of our duty to the community to continually grow the sport we all love and ensure our local youth players have the access and very best possible opportunities to develop their game with Akron Soccer.

For players, both boys and girls, ages 7 - 12 we host two weeks of our popular Day Camp. Day Camp weeks are Monday, June 9th – Friday, June 13th and Monday, June 23rd – Friday, June 27th.  Day Camps provide local youth players the opportunity to learn, develop and practice their abilities under the tutelage of the Akron coaching staff and players, training in the same environment that has produced the most exciting and attacking style of soccer, ever seen at the college level.

July will see us host two weeks of our Residential/Commuter Camp for boys only aged 10 – 18. Campers can attend either week, with camps running from Thursday, July 10th – Sunday, July 13th OR Wednesday, July, 16th – Saturday, July 19th. Attending a week of Residential/Commuter Camp would give campers the opportunity to see our campus, utilize the athletic facilities and visit with the coaching staff and play against current Akron players.   The week will also give you the best opportunity to showcase your soccer talents in front of the Akron coaching staff, as well as selected college coaches from all levels of the collegiate game, a great recruiting resource for players aspiring to play at the collegiate level. You can learn more about our camps and registration details, online at: www.akronsoccercamp.com

If there is anything you need from us at Akron Soccer, please do not hesitate to contact. We would be more than willing to come and visit your program to perform a clinic to show your players and members what they can expect from the Akron Camp experience!
